More Champions
More Hardwood Champions! Congratulations to Samantha & Danica from Fred Assam Elementary School! They play on the Lynx 4th grade basketball team. Other players are from RBE, VSE, and Sioux Falls. In 3 games, this team out-scored their opponents 99 - 27! Ouch!!
WINTER GUIDELINES
With the Cold Weather, parents often question whether or not students will be going outside for recess. The following guidelines should help:
In the event that the temperature and/or wind chill is 0 degrees or below, students will remain inside. If the temperature and/or wind chill is above 0 degrees, students will go outside. Parents should make sure their children are dressed appropriately for these conditions.
When snow can be found on the playground, ALL students are required to wear boots. Junior kindergarten through grade three are required to wear snow pants. If students in grades four and five would like to play in the snow areas, they must also wear snow pants. Snow pants are not required if they remain on their feet - on the playground. During the winter months, all students must have shoes for indoor use and snow boots for outdoors.
The school believes in having outdoor recess as often as possible and understands that it is important in the overall health of our students. If your child needs any winter clothing items, please let the office know. We have many hats, mittens, etc. that have been donated to our school. Arrangements for coats, snow pants, and boots can also be made.

Artist in Residence
Fred Assam Elementary PTA is sponsoring the Artist in Residence program. Our artist is Mary Wipf. Using our Acts of Kindness theme from our school, Mary had the students draw pictures of many different acts of kindness happening. With Mary's help, students have transfered and painted their art work onto large paper ~ which will be wallpapered in the Commons Area! This artwork will be a permanent display at our school. Each grade level has their own area in the Commons. It's really neat to see the progression of drawings from kindergarten through fifth grade. Thanks, Mary!! Thanks, PTA!!
