Orchestra Holiday Concert

4th and 5th grade orchestra students performed their holiday music on Monday night. The orchestra is directed by Mrs. Patti Nelson. Congratulations on a fine performance!

Beautiful sunrise!

I took this picture this morning ~ Monday, December 13 ~ about 7:45am. The sun was just starting to rise in the east. What a beautiful sight to a very chilly morning! The temperature said 8 degrees with a wind chill of minus 2.

Commons Area "POPS" with color!

After many hours of painting and processing, the end is in sight! 5th grade girls are helping to put the wallpaper paste on the back of art work.

Artist Mary Wipf, Sandy Klatt and son Carter were up on the lift to wallpaper the students' art work to each soffit in the Commons Area. It was quite a process to work the bubbles out and cover the area ~ also a challenge was to have each section match up with the next!

Students and staff gathered in the Commons Area at 8:25 Monday morning for the "unveiling". Art work was covered by brown paper until the exact time.

Kindergarten and first grade art work will be finished and wallpapered by the end of this week. Many thanks to the Fred Assam Elementary PTA for sponsoring Artist Mary Wipf, Sandy Klatt for coordinating this project, Becky Blue & family for providing a home for Mary to stay, the many volunteer moms who helped with touch up painting, elementary staff for their flexible schedules to have students paint, and ~ most importantly ~ the students who made this art work come to life. The theme of the project is Acts of Kindness ~ something that the students and staff at Fred Assam Elementary promote every day! Be sure to stop in and enjoy our murals.

"Unveiling" scheduled for Monday

Artist Mary Wipf is still working with students at Fred Assam Elementary School. These first grade students are in the painting stage of their designs. Also in the painting process ~ kindergarten students. Mary ~ along with volunteers (who are still needed) will work to wallpaper the murals this week-end. The murals will be wallpapered in the Commons Area on the soffits. Each grade level has their own soffit with parts of their drawings painted on large paper. The murals will become a permanent display and add lots of color to the Commons Area. An "unveiling" of work for grades 2 - 5 will be Monday, December 6 at 8:25am. Parents are welcome to attend. Kindergarten and 1st grade murals will be wallpapered during that week. If you are not able to join us on December 6 ~ please feel free to stop in any time to view the art work!

Christmas tree

Just "pawsing" to tell you . . .

The Christmas tree in the Commons Area is beginning to fill with ornaments. Students are making ornaments with the animal theme. Student Council's service project this month is to help out the Humane Society. We are collecting donations that can be used for the cats, dogs, hamsters, and other animals at the Humane Society. Any donations can be placed under the tree and will be delivered by the Student Council on December 22. In these pictures, kindergarten students are placing their ornaments on the tree!

The kids are delighted that the snow came! While we only received about 1 inch ~ it still made for lots of fun outside!
