Student Council Easter eggs

Members of the Student Council are pictured filling Easter eggs. They decide to have an Easter egg hunt for all of the students at Fred Assam Elementary. The hunt will be held in each classroom on Thursday before Easter.

PEEP SHOW preview

The first PEEP entry was made by Cassidy in 5th grade. It's not too late ~ create your work of art and bring it to the library to display! All entries will be on display until Thursday before Easter. More pictures of all the great entries to follow . . . .

Donkey Ball is a Hit!

The High School Booster Club held a fundraiser involving donkeys and basketball last Friday night. I've been told that they pre-sold over 1300 tickets to the event! Representing Fred Assam Elementary (and wonderful sports!) were Mrs. Erin Bisbee and Mr. Dan Woodle. They each took turns on a donkey during the game. These were no ordinary donkeys ~ they have been trained to buck, duck, and run at the most inconvenient times! I think both teachers would agree that they had fun - but needed a shower as soon as they finished! Between games, elementary students could ride a donkey for fun. Of course during that time - the donkeys were very mild. Joining in the fun ~ School Board member Renee Ullom and Superintendent Pappone assisted with "poop" detail.

CureKids Cancer

Taco John's in Brandon hosted a CureKids Cancer fundraiser on Monday, March 22. Amanda and Mariah (students from FAE) and Olivia (student from RBE) served dessert samples to everyone. The CureKids Cancer radiothon was just held last week-end. I've since heard that they raised over $200,000! Fred Assam Elementary students helped support the fundraiser by buying bracelets that Amanda and Mariah and their families made. "Thanks, Tiffany" from Taco John's. She provided the pictures of these hard-working, lovable ladies!

Health Fair Fun!

Lots of fun was had by everyone attending the Health Fair! Numerous vendors were available and lots of "goodies" given away. Congratulations to Lexi and Sydney ~ they both entered posters for the Health Fair and their posters won! Fred Assam Elementary had a volleyball team ~ sure wish I had a video rather than pictures. I'm sure we would qualify for Funniest Home Videos! But then again . . . they might say that about me taking part in the Dance, Dance, Revolution challenge!

Latest finisher with Math Facts in a Flash!

Trayton ~ a 4th grader ~ just finished the entire program of Math Facts in a Flash! Way to go, Trayton! His hard work paid off with his certificate and DQ gift card.

Smoking Display

Nurse Margie had the smoking display at Fred Assam Elementary for students to view. Pictures showed results of second-hand smoke as well as what smoking does to a smoker's mouth, gums, and teeth.

YES!

The kids at the Youth Enrichment Services after school program were doing some measuring ~ using their bodies! Lots of laughs and giggles could be heard as they predicted and measured different areas around the building.

Reflections Art Contest update

CONGRATULATIONS!! Fred Assam Elementary had several students whose artwork did very well at the next levels of competition for the Reflections Art Contest.

Non-Council Awards were received by Jennica P.(visual arts); Caleb K.(photography); Mason M. (film production); Carter K. (literature); and Mitch P. (musical composition).

Mason M., Jennica P., and Caleb K. each received Excellence Awards at the next level of the Reflections Art Contest. Their artwork is advancing to the National PTA Reflections competition.

Carter K. and Mitch P. both received Merit/Honorable Mention Awards for South Dakota in their art categories.

Book Review

I love to read! I try to read a blend of professional as well as entertaining literature. A good friend of mine loaned me this book with the comment "you won't be able to put it down".

Mush Husky!

Meet Zipper ~ an Alaskan Husky and his owner Doug Ruzicka. Zipper and Doug visited Fred Assam Elementary School last Friday to share their experiences of the Iditarod. 4th & 5th grade students have been following the Iditarod so it was great to have these visitors share their information first-hand.

The Ultimate Reading Survivor finish

Their torches were lit and extinguished ~ until the last one surviving was 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Brown. Her students survived their reading challenge for the week! A quick game of "Survivor Says" with her class led to Will L. being selected as the Assistant Principal of the Day! At the time of this publication - no date has been set for Will to take over his responsibilities ~ but I look forward to having an Assistant!
